6/8/2020 – Voting in Indian County

This is an election year and in a few months Americans will be going to the polls to cast their ballots for everything from state offices, U.S. Congress and even the presidency. Yet for Native Americans, this American right isn’t so easy to exercise. The country’s 574 federally recognized tribes have a number of barriers that keep them from voting. Those issues are named in a new report from the Native American Rights Fund called, “Obstacles at Every Turn: Barriers to Political Participation by Native American Voters.” Jacqueline De Leon, a senior staff attorney with NARF and one of the authors, will discuss the report and the proposed solutions to ending voter repression in Indian Country.
