Meet the new Miss Sherman!

Shania Spencer tearfully accepted her crown as the 2013-14 Miss Sherman during the high school's 28th annual pageant in Riverside, Calif.

The all-Native American high school's newest royalty is the 16-year-old vice president of the the White Rose singers. She hales from Jeddito, Ariz. and is a member of the Navajo Nation. Last year, she served as Headwoman for the Sherman Pow Wow.

Spencer competed for the title against fellow Sherman students Lucia Antone (A'kimel O'dham, Tohono O'odham, Salt River Pima and Hopi), 18, and Keso-Kookie OshKosh (Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin), 17. Each contestant performed a speech, made a cultural presentation and modeled traditional regalia.

The event took place on Friday, April 19 in the Robert Levi Auditorium on the Sherman Indian High School campus.
